Nostalgic Music Thread

I hear this was released on this day in 1977.

I love The Kinks. They are timeless, and it kind of disappoints me that they are not more well known and played today.

I came here, though, because it is the Holiday Season, and for me, there is ONE version, of ONE song, that embodies all that is Christmas. It is nostalgic, because I watched it live on television at my grandparents. My grandfather was a Bing Crosby fan, and my grandfather told me that Bing died right after filming this Christmas song, I think it was his last performance...don't quote me on that. I had never heard of David Bowie, but I have been a Bowie guy ever since that day, to this day. One of the great musical geniuses of my time.

But this one is special. It's like wherever I am, whatever I am doing, when I hear it, I have to stop and appreciate the song, and replay the vision in my mind of Crosby and Bowie singing by the piano, with the Christmas tree in the background. It's perfect in every way.

This is now a 200 page thread (for those of us that use the default of 20 posts/page, which I suspect is nearly everyone).

That's a testament to the vision of the OP - kudos to BeagleBay for tapping into the zeitgeist of the Planet!

The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils;
The motions of his spirit are dull as night,
And his affections dark as Erebus.

Let no such man be trusted. Mark the music.

Heard this. the original, on 92.5 The River this am. Reminded me how I loved this in the early 1950's!. A monster hit!
Oh yea, tons of airplay way back when..! But - early 50's...?? Wow-waa-wee-wah, and I thought I was old...! :p

The music that's nostalgic for me is mostly from the 80s. I listened to this album a ton and saw Lou on this tour at the Orpheum in Boston (where he played the album from beginning to end). Also once waited in line at the old Tower Records on Newbury St. to meet him and have him sign something. In terms of writing lyrics, I think he was one of the best.

Hey PP. I know some of you think I am a sour minded dude always complaining, and being pissed off with what is obviously going on right under our noses.

However internally I wish this for all.
Tis the Season for a reason.

Have yourself a Merry BIG Christmas.

One of the (many) performers from the 1960s & 1970s who still resonates with me.
