Fleetwood Mac and ......ah, Stevie.....rock's #1 babe of all time IMO.

This one makes me think of the days when I made the switch from AM top-40 radio to AOR on the FM band.

Song: Room To Move
Artist: John Mayall

Ah TIP, you bet, FM back then was a joy. And John Mayall- a staple on free form radio indeed.

Here's probably my favorite song from him - "California" - also from "The Turning Point" album:

It's progressive rock time - let's start with a couple of the progenitors...

Song: Journey To The Center Of Your Mind
Artist: The Amboy Dukes

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/cAL1RrX5Lp4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Song: The Story In Your Eyes
Artist: The Moody Blues

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/yoDXzvXxUbc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

And here's a couple of efforts that are more distinctly prog rock -

Song: One Of These Days
Artist: Pink Floyd

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/gewiBN5kdls" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Song: Hyper Gamma Spaces
Artist: Alan Parson Project

That genre reminds me of this one - lots of airplay back in the summer of '72:

In Memoriam:

Song: Hi-De-Ho
Artist: Carole King

A. You may not like this song.

B. You may not have a pulse.

If A is true, then B is very likely. :D

Carlos Santana on lead vocal, a rare occurrence.

From my current perspective, forty years into the past seems like a very long time ago. But 1973 was a truly outstanding year for music - Pink Floyd gave us Dark Side Of The Moon; Herbie Hancock delivered the Headhunters album. There was ELP with Brain Salad Surgery, Tubular Bells from Mike Oldfield, and many, many noteworthy others.

Here's a selection from one of the year's best albums, Innervisions.

Song: Higher Ground
Artist: Stevie Wonder

Featuring a trademark harmonica solo by Stevie Wonder. He's everywhere!

Here's something with harmonica by Graham Nash.

Other contributors on the album include noted jazzmen Wilton Felder (The Crusaders) and Tom Scott (Tom Scott and the LA Express).

This one doesn't really evoke nostalgia, but the artists do :)

Not sure if I have posted this one before - perhaps not - anyway, for my money , this is the one of the greatest live performance I have heard - Santana at Woodstock doing 'Soul Survivor":

When I was young and hopeful, I would listen to music like this and think that most people in the world had prospects of a better life ahead of them.

For the last couple of decades I have been much more cynical.

However, the people of Boston in the last week have shown me that there's still a lot of good things to like about my country and my place of origin. I'm pretty happy about that.
